The Ancient Romans were famous for introducing many things and herbs was one of them. Many of the plants were helpful treating aliments, disguising smells but also to flavour food.
This fragrant Roman Growbar collection uses some of the most popular herbs used at the time, Basil, Thyme and Marjoram. This Growbar would make be a fun family project or a mini history lesson about the Ancient Romans and their culinary favourites.
Start your Growbar between March-June by unwrapping your Growbar and place it within a shallow dish allowing for it to expand. Carefully pour water into the tray and position on a sunny windowsill. A warm 18-22 degrees will get those seedlings to germinate. Water regularly, the bar should remain the colour of a rich dark cake.
Your seedlings should start to appear after a few weeks and be ready to pot into individual containers or planted directly into the ground when they have 4-8 leaves in a sunny aspect.
Be like a Roman and have the same philosophy, ‘You are what you eat’.
Marjoram a prized herb to bring good health and longevity.
Basil a sacred plant used in special religious ceremonies
Thyme romans planted thyme near their beehives and sold the honey as a specialty item.
